Nigeria’s Chief of Defence Staff, Olufemi Oluyede, and Chief of Army Staff, Waidi Shaibu, have visited Maiduguri to strengthen military operations in the North East.

They were received by the Theatre Commander of Operation Hadin Kai, Major General Abdulsalam Abubakar, before heading to the Joint Task Force headquarters.

The defence chief inspected a guard of honour and later held a closed-door meeting with senior commanders.

Speaking after the meeting, Oluyede said the military is reviewing strategies to prevent recent attacks from happening again.

He also urged residents of Borno State and Yobe State to support security agencies with credible intelligence.

According to him, many insurgents are locals, making community cooperation key to ending the conflict.

Oluyede added that the military is studying the use of drones by insurgents and working on ways to counter the technology.

The visit is expected to boost ongoing counter-insurgency efforts in the region.
