Nigeria’s Defence Headquarters says coordinated counterterrorism operations carried out with the United States Africa Command have killed 175 ISIS fighters in northeastern Nigeria

In a statement, Director of Defence Information, Major General Samaila Uba, said the operations also destroyed ISIS checkpoints, weapons storage facilities, logistics hubs, military equipment and financial networks used to support terrorist activities.

The military said several senior ISIS and ISWAP commanders were among those killed, including Abu-Bilal al-Minuki, described as one of the group’s most significant operatives globally.

According to the Defence Headquarters, al-Minuki played a major role in coordinating terrorist financing, recruitment, logistics and attack planning targeting Nigerians and civilians in other countries.

Other commanders reportedly killed include Abd-al Wahhab, said to be responsible for coordinating attacks and propaganda operations, Abu Musa al-Mangawi, and Abu al-Muthanna al-Muhajir, identified as a senior member of the ISWAP media team.

The Defence Headquarters said the operations form part of ongoing efforts by Nigerian forces and international partners to dismantle terrorist networks and restore security in the region.

The military also reiterated its commitment to sustaining operations against armed groups threatening Nigeria’s security and regional stability.
