Operatives of the Department of State Services (DSS) have arrested two suspected arms couriers and seized two Rocket-Propelled Grenade (RPG) warheads, an RPG launcher, and other weapons linked to bandit networks in Gombe State.

Security sources identified the suspects as Muhammed Alhaji Mohammed and Sani Gesha.

They were intercepted at Mararaban Tula, Kaltungo Local Government Area, while travelling in a grey Toyota Corolla with registration number Taraba JAL475YQ.

The operation followed covert surveillance of a bandit cell led by Kachalla Gambo, which trafficked arms across Bauchi, Gombe, Taraba, and Adamawa states.

DSS operatives monitored the syndicate for over three weeks before launching a targeted operation, seizing a large cache of weapons, a source said.

During questioning, the suspects confessed that the consignment was destined for Ardo Hamma Ari, a resident of Kukawa Village, Alkaleri LGA, Bauchi State.

The operatives also rescued a six-year-old boy, Mohammed Jabir, from Gyada Village, Talase in Balanga LGA.

The suspects are currently in DSS custody and will be arraigned in court in the coming days, the source added.

The DSS operation highlights ongoing efforts to disrupt arms trafficking and bandit networks in northeastern Nigeria, reinforcing security and protecting vulnerable communities.
