The Federal Capital Territory High Court in Maitama, Abuja, has granted bail to Godwin Emefiele, the former Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria, at a sum of N2 billion.

Emefiele faces an eight-count charge related to the alleged unlawful acquisition of a 753-unit housing estate and embezzlement of billions through proxy accounts.

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) claims Emefiele colluded with Eric Ocheme to acquire the property at Plot 109, Cadastral Zone C09, Lokogoma District, Abuja.

Justice Yusuf Halilu, acknowledging Emefiele's adherence to previous bail conditions, imposed the new bail conditions, requiring the submission of his travel documents and two sureties who own properties valued at N2 billion in specific Abuja districts.

The court set a deadline for the conditions to be met by the following Wednesday, cautioning that failure to comply could result in Emefiele's remand.

The next hearing is scheduled for 11 July.
