The Federal Government has commissioned the expanded Abuja Premier Warehouse to improve the storage and distribution of medicines, vaccines and other essential health commodities across the country.

Speaking at the inauguration, Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Health and Social Welfare, Daju Kachollom, representing Coordinating Minister Muhammad Ali Pate, said the project is a major step in strengthening Nigeria’s healthcare system.

She said the expansion will increase storage capacity, improve logistics efficiency and ensure the safe preservation and timely distribution of critical medical supplies nationwide.

According to Kachollom, the facility is part of a network of 22 Central Medical Warehouses across 21 states supported by The Global Fund to improve commodity security and access to life-saving products.

She described the warehouse as a strategic national asset that aligns with ongoing health reforms under the Renewed Hope Agenda and reaffirmed the government’s commitment to sustaining the facility.

Executive Director of the Global Fund, Peter Sands, said strong supply chains are critical to effective healthcare delivery, especially in a country the size of Nigeria.

Also speaking, UNICEF Deputy Representative for Operations, Charles Opikoli Lolika, said the upgraded warehouse and related infrastructure are expected to benefit about 149 million Nigerians, including 68 million children, through improved storage and distribution of health commodities.

The project highlights continued collaboration between the Federal Government, the Global Fund and UNICEF in strengthening Nigeria’s health system and advancing universal health coverage.
