The Federal High Court (FHC) in Abuja experienced a complete shutdown on Monday as the Judiciary Staff Union of Nigeria (JUSUN) commenced an indefinite strike.

The court's entrance gates on Shehu Shagari Way were locked, preventing judges, lawyers, staff, and litigants from accessing the premises.

The strike, declared by JUSUN's national body, has effectively paralyzed business activities in and around the court.

The union had issued a directive on May 30, instructing all chapter chairmen to ensure members stayed home starting from midnight on June 1.

The strike is a response to what the union describes as unfruitful negotiations facilitated by the Minister of Labour and Employment.

JUSUN is demanding payment of a five-month wage award, implementation of a ₦70,000 National Minimum Wage, and a 25/35 percent salary increase.

Efforts to speak with union executives were unsuccessful, as they were reportedly in a meeting.

Despite reports of some union chapters withdrawing from the industrial action, the FHC gates remained locked as of 9:48 a.m.
