The Federal Government has expressed shock over the death of seven journalists killed in a road accident in Gombe State.
Among the victims are staff members of the Nigerian Television Authority.
The journalists were returning from a colleague’s wedding when the crash occurred in Gombe South.
The Minister of Information and National Orientation, Mohammed Idris, confirmed the incident on Tuesday.
The Gombe State Sector Commander of the Federal Road Safety Corps, Samson Kaura, also confirmed the crash.
In a statement, Idris described the incident as a painful loss to the media community and the country.
He said the deaths have left a deep void in the journalism profession.
The minister extended condolences to the Nigeria Union of Journalists, the NUJ Gombe State Council, and the families of the victims.
He also called for renewed efforts to improve safety for journalists, especially during official and social assignments.
Idris prayed for strength for the bereaved families and for the souls of the departed to rest in peace.
