The Federal Government has introduced new performance targets for ministries, departments and agencies (MDAs) to improve service delivery, reduce regulatory bottlenecks and create a more business-friendly environment.

Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister of the Economy Taiwo Oyedele announced the initiative Thursday during a meeting with agency heads and senior government officials in Abuja.

Oyedele said economic reforms must go beyond macroeconomic stability to address the challenges businesses face when dealing with government agencies.

Under the proposed framework, agencies will be required to eliminate overlapping requirements, unnecessary fees and administrative delays. Where mandates overlap, the government aims to establish one lead agency, one process and one fee.

The minister also directed agencies to consult stakeholders before introducing regulations, assess their economic impact and provide reasonable notice before major policy changes.

Agency performance will be measured by service delivery speed, compliance with published timelines and reductions in the cost of doing business.

The Finance Ministry will review agencies’ submissions and provide feedback within four to six weeks before measurable commitments are agreed upon and monitored.

Oyedele said the framework would also apply to the Finance Ministry as the government seeks to strengthen accountability, attract investment and support job creation.
