Civil society organization, Enough is Enough Nigeria (EiE Nigeria) has recommended that the National assembly remove the provision of direct primaries from the Electoral Act (Amendment) Bill of 2021.

Executive Director of the organization, ‘Yemi Adamolekun speaking to Wemimo Adewuni on Morning Crossfire said that this is the only visible way out of the deadlock between the President and the National Assembly.

The President had on Monday withheld his assent in a letter to the National assembly citing issues with the process of direct primaries.

There have been calls for the National Assembly to veto the president, but rather than letting the issue drag for long, Adamolekun believes that removing the provision, although not ideal, will make for quick passage of the bill.

“We have elections in 14 months and this is the law that will determine how the elections run. So let’s see how the law works as INEC gets used to the different provisions,” she added.
