The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) says it will conduct a mock accreditation exercise ahead of the August 15, 2026 Osun State governorship election to assess its preparedness for the poll.

In a statement signed by Ariyo Rufus, Head of Department, Voter Education, Publicity, Gender and Inclusivity, the commission said the exercise will hold on Saturday, August 1, 2026, across selected polling units in 12 local government areas.

INEC said the exercise will take place across the three senatorial districts of the state, covering Osun Central, Osun West and Osun East.

The selected local government areas include Osogbo, Olorunda, Ifelodun and Boripe in Osun Central; Egbedore, Ede North, Ede South and Ejigbo in Osun West; and Ilesa West, Ilesa East, Oriade and Obokun in Osun East.

The commission explained that the mock accreditation is aimed at testing the performance of the Bimodal Voter Accreditation System (BVAS) under conditions similar to those of Election Day.

INEC stressed that no voting will take place during the exercise, but urged registered voters in the selected polling units to participate with their Permanent Voter Cards.

The electoral body reaffirmed its commitment to conducting a free, fair, credible, transparent and inclusive governorship election in Osun State.
