A former presidential candidate and activist, Omoyele Sowore, says It’s time for Nigeria to seek new independence from internal colonizers.

Sowore told Nigeria Info on the Morning Crossfire Tuesday that “Independence is not what you are given; it is something you take and you exercise all the time.”

He said the independence Nigeria celebrates on 1 October was achieved by protesting.

He added that the democracy Nigeria has been practicing since 1999 came out of protests.

The activist said people “probably don’t know how powerful a protest is in securing liberation.”

“Those who say protests don’t work have never participated in one, and they haven’t done a great protest,” he continued.

Sowore mentioned that Nigeria was ready for a revolution that would "start from marches, rallies, education, then mass revolt.”
