Former Kano State Governor Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso has called for an immediate investigation into the killing of social media political commentator Ibrahim Khalil Dan Shagamu in Kano.

Kwankwaso, in a statement, said he was deeply disturbed by Dan Shagamu’s death and urged the Kano State Government to constitute an investigative panel to determine what happened and bring those responsible to justice.

Dan Shagamu was found dead at his home in Gaida, Kano, with his body reportedly found in a pool of blood. Amnesty International has also condemned the killing and called for a thorough investigation.

Kwankwaso warned that if the authorities fail to take decisive and transparent action, an incoming NDC government would launch a full investigation and take steps to hold those responsible accountable.

He also called on the Kano State and Federal governments to protect opposition voices from threats and attacks, stressing that freedom of expression is guaranteed by the Nigerian Constitution.

Kwankwaso said the authorities must ensure a full investigation into the killing and bring those responsible to justice.

He extended his condolences to Dan Shagamu’s family, friends and followers, praying that Almighty Allah grants him Jannatul Firdaus.

The circumstances and motive behind the killing remained unclear as of Wednesday, while Kano State Governor Abba Yusuf has directed security agencies to identify and arrest those responsible.
