The Lagos State Government has announced a new traffic diversion plan ahead of repair works on Apongbon Bridge and nearby service lanes, warning motorists to expect temporary closures and rerouted traffic over the next six weeks.

The repair work, to be handled by the Federal Ministry of Works, will focus on damaged asphalt sections along the ramp and service lane linking Inner Marina to Apongbon Bridge, as well as parts of the bridge in both directions. Officials say the project will run from February 5 to March 19, 2026.

To keep the work zone safe, some road sections will be closed from time to time, with alternative routes mapped out for drivers. For inbound traffic, motorists from Inner Marina will be redirected through the Apongbon under bridge roundabout to Adeniji Adele Road, then through Ebute Ero before reconnecting to Apongbon or Eko Bridge. Traffic coming from TBS, Third Mainland Bridge and Victoria Island will continue to use Apongbon Bridge to reach Eko Bridge.

When repairs shift to the outbound lanes, drivers heading toward Inner Marina will be diverted through Ebute Ero and Adeniji Adele Road, while traffic going to Outer Marina, Victoria Island and Third Mainland Bridge will maintain movement on Apongbon Bridge. During major outbound repairs, some motorists will also be redirected through Leventis and CMS corridors.

The Commissioner for Transportation, Oluwaseun Osiyemi, appealed to road users to remain patient and follow traffic instructions. He assured residents that traffic officials will be on ground to reduce disruptions, adding that the temporary diversions are necessary to ensure a successful repair of the bridge.
