LeBron James became the NBA’s all-time leader in regular-season games played on Saturday, appearing in his 1,612th career game as the Los Angeles Lakers edged the Orlando Magic 105-104.

The 41-year-old moved past the previous record of 1,611 set by Robert Parish, a mark that had stood since 1997. James had equaled the record on Thursday with a triple-double in a win over the Miami Heat.

The milestone nearly came in a loss, with Orlando leading 104-102 with seconds remaining. But Luke Kennard drilled a buzzer-beating three-pointer with 0.6 seconds left to hand the Lakers their ninth straight victory.

James finished with 12 points, six rebounds and four assists, while Luka Doncic led Los Angeles with 33 points. Doncic also picked up his 16th technical foul of the season, triggering a suspension that will sideline him for Monday’s game against the Detroit Pistons, according to coach JJ Redick.

Austin Reaves added 26 points for the Lakers, who improved to 46-25 to strengthen their hold on third place in the Western Conference.

James, in his 23rd NBA season, already holds multiple league records, including career points and the longest streak of games with at least 10 points.

“It was a regular prep day,” James said. “The best thing you can do for your teammates is to be available, and I’ve tried to be available throughout my career.”

Including playoff games, James has played 1,904 career contests. Kareem Abdul-Jabbar ranks second in total appearances, followed by Parish.
