The Nigeria Civil Aviation Authority has appealed to aviation unions to suspend their ongoing industrial action and exercise restraint pending the return of the Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, Festus Keyamo.

In a statement signed by its Director General of Civil Aviation, Capt. Chris Ona Najomo, the NCAA said the minister had been actively working to resolve the issues behind the dispute.

The authority said the matter could have been addressed at a meeting convened by Keyamo last week, but the meeting failed to hold after airline operators did not honour the invitation.

The NCAA assured air travellers that flight safety remained uncompromised, adding that it continued to carry out its statutory safety oversight responsibilities.

It called on all parties to embrace dialogue and cooperation, expressing confidence that the dispute would be resolved shortly and normal flight operations restored as soon as practicable.

The authority also apologised to passengers for the inconvenience caused by the industrial action and thanked them for their patience and understanding.
