The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency says it has foiled multiple drug smuggling attempts at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport,  Ikeja, intercepting opioids and methamphetamine concealed in unusual items.

The agency says the seizures followed attempts by trafficking networks to move illicit drugs to Europe through Lagos, leading to the arrest of suspects on outbound flights.

NDLEA says a 37-year-old suspect, Friday Ehianuka, was arrested while trying to board a flight to Rome with tramadol pills hidden in body cream containers, while another suspect, Christian Agbonhese, was intercepted with thousands of pills concealed in winter jackets.

At a courier facility, officers also intercepted cannabis shipments from the United States and uncovered methamphetamine hidden in carton walls bound for New Zealand.

Across several states, including Kano and Lagos, operatives seized large quantities of cannabis and codeine syrup, with multiple suspects arrested during coordinated raids.

NDLEA Chairman, Mohamed Buba Marwa, commended officers for the operations and urged sustained efforts to combat drug trafficking and abuse nationwide.
