The National Examinations Council has released the results of the 2026 Basic Education Certificate Examination, with 186,291 candidates participating across Nigeria and five foreign countries.
NECO announced the release on Thursday following the conclusion of the 2026 BECE Award Committee Meeting at its headquarters in Minna, Niger State.
The examination, conducted from April 20 to April 30, covered 12 subjects and drew candidates from the 36 states, the Federal Capital Territory and selected overseas centres.
Speaking at the meeting, Chairperson of the Award Committee and Director of Basic Education at the Federal Ministry of Education, Folake Olatunji-David, who represented Education Minister Tunji Alausa, expressed satisfaction with the conduct of the examination and the timely processing of results.
“The examination was successfully conducted, and the processes leading to the release of the results were completed satisfactorily,” she said.
The committee also approved July 22 and July 23, 2026, for a resit examination in Mathematics and English Studies.
NECO said the resit is intended for candidates with deficiencies in either or both subjects, allowing them to meet requirements for admission into Senior Secondary School One without repeating an academic year.
The council said the exercise underscores its commitment to maintaining credible assessment standards while providing eligible candidates with opportunities to continue their education.
Secondary school principals from across the country and members of NECO management attended the award committee meeting.
