The National Environmental Standards and Regulations Enforcement Agency has sealed Bond Chemicals Industries Limited in Oyo State over environmental violations, following public complaints and confirmed breaches.

NESREA said inspections found the company discharging untreated wastewater with an offensive odour into the environment and operating without a functional effluent treatment plant.

Officials said the firm was earlier directed to install treatment systems and obtain permits but failed to comply.

“NESREA sealed the facility to prevent further environmental degradation and safeguard public health,” the agency said.

Director-General Prof. Innocent Barikor warned that all operators must comply with environmental standards, including installing pollution control equipment.

“We will intensify enforcement and apply sanctions where necessary,” he said.

The agency said the facility will remain closed until it meets regulatory requirements, adding that investigations and compliance monitoring are ongoing.
