The Nigeria Immigration Service says 8,552 Nigerians living abroad have been enrolled for passports through targeted intervention exercises in the United States, Canada, Qatar and the United Kingdom.
The service said the exercises were carried out to bring passport services closer to Nigerians in the diaspora and improve service delivery.
The intervention, directed by Interior Minister Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, was conducted in collaboration with Nigerian diplomatic missions and representatives of Nigerian communities in the affected countries.
The NIS said 535 Nigerians were enrolled in Chicago, Michigan and Milwaukee in the United States, while 2,257 were enrolled across Manitoba, Toronto, Saskatoon, Alberta and New Brunswick in Canada.
It said 751 Nigerians were enrolled in Qatar, while 5,099 have so far been enrolled in London and Manchester in the United Kingdom.
The UK exercise is still ongoing, with passport production and dispatch taking place alongside the enrollment process to ensure timely delivery to applicants.
The NIS said it remains committed to providing accessible, efficient and timely passport services to Nigerians living abroad.
