Nigeria has signed an agreement with South Korea’s Asia Economic Development Committee to establish an electric vehicle manufacturing plant and build charging infrastructure across the country.

The memorandum of understanding was signed on January 30, 2026, by the Minister of State for Industry, Trade and Investment, Senator John Enoh.

Officials say the project is designed to support Nigeria’s National Energy Transition Plan and boost the local automotive industry.

The initiative will be carried out in phases, starting with vehicle assembly before expanding into full local production.

The plant is expected to produce up to 300,000 electric vehicles and create about 10,000 jobs.

The National Automotive Design and Development Council says the partnership will encourage investment, technology transfer, skills development, and innovation in Nigeria’s growing green economy.
