Detained leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra, Nnamdi Kanu, has filed an appeal challenging his conviction and multiple sentences handed down by the Federal High Court, arguing that the trial contained serious legal flaws.

In a notice of appeal dated February 4, 2026, Kanu said he wants to be physically present at the appeal hearing and indicated that he may choose to argue the case himself.

He criticised the trial court for delivering its judgment while his bail application was still pending, saying the decision affected the fairness of the proceedings. Kanu also argued that he was convicted under a law he claims had already been repealed.

The IPOB leader further alleged that he was denied a fair hearing because he was not given the opportunity to file or present a final written address before judgment was delivered.

In his appeal, Kanu is asking the Court of Appeal to overturn his conviction and sentences, and to discharge and acquit him on all counts.
