Supporters of Peter Obi and Rabiu Kwankwaso have unveiled a new political pressure group, the “Obi–Kwankwaso (OK) Movement,” as alignments intensify ahead of the African Democratic Congress presidential primary.

The movement, launched in Abuja on Monday, said it has already established structures across all 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory, with coordinators appointed at state and zonal levels to drive mobilisation efforts nationwide.

In a statement, the group’s National Publicity Secretary, Justin Ijeh, described the initiative as a coalition bringing together members of the Obidient Movement, Kwankwasiyya, the New Nigeria People’s Party, and the ADC.

He said the platform aims to provide a coordinated structure for opposition forces seeking political reform ahead of the 2027 general elections.

Ijeh said the country is facing economic hardship, rising living costs, and persistent insecurity, adding that the movement represents “a nationwide engine for systemic reform and national rebirth.”

He noted that the group rejects divisive politics based on ethnicity, region, or religion.

The emergence of the OK Movement signals a fresh realignment within the opposition, particularly as uncertainty grows over who will secure the ADC presidential ticket.

The group is seen as drawing inspiration from the youth-driven Obidient Movement, which gained prominence during the 2023 elections.

Confirming the development, Obidient Movement National Coordinator Yunusa Tanko said the OK Movement is working in alignment with existing Obi support structures toward a joint presidential ambition under the ADC.

The development comes amid rising tension within the party following the declaration of interest by former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, who has insisted he will not step down for any aspirant.

His stance has stirred debate within the coalition, especially among supporters of other key figures.

Other prominent names linked to the ADC race include Aminu Tambuwal, while the party—currently chaired by David Mark—has attracted heavyweights such as Rotimi Amaechi and Nasir El-Rufai, further intensifying competition.

Meanwhile, the Labour Party has distanced itself from viral social media posts urging Obi and Kwankwaso to return to its fold, describing the messages as unauthorised.

As political blocs continue to reposition ahead of the primaries, the formation of the OK Movement highlights the growing contest for influence within Nigeria’s opposition landscape.
