2023 has been a year to remember for Italian club Napoli, but it has certainly been an even better one for their number one frontman, Victor Osimhen.
The Super Eagles striker on Monday scooped the Italian Footballers’ Association Footballer of the Year following his remarkable performances for the Neapolitans during the 2022–23 season.
Osimhen's 26 goals helped I Partenopei (The Parthenopeans) bag the Scudetto for the first time in 33 years last season under their now former manager, Luciano Spalletti, and also reach the quarter-finals of the UEFA Champions League.
Also at the AIC Oscar del Calcio Awards, the 26-year-old was included in the Serie A Team of the Year which features teammates, Khvicha Kvaratskhelia and Kim Min-jae, as well as Andrea Bastoni, Theo Hernández, Rafael Leão, Giovanni Di Lorenzo, Hakan Çalhanoğlu, Mike Maignan, Stanislav Lobotka, and Nicolo Barella.
This latest award for Osimhen comes just weeks after he finished eighth in the rankings for the 2023 Ballon d’Or Awards, becoming the best-ranked Nigerian since the awards began.
The AFCON 2024-bound Super Eagles striker is also in the final 10-man shortlist for the 2023 CAF Awards which takes place on December 11 in Marrakesh, Morocco, an award he is heavily tipped to claim.
