Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister of the Economy, Taiwo Oyedele, is leading Nigeria’s delegation to the 2026 International Monetary Fund (IMF) Annual Meetings in Bangkok, Thailand.
The meetings, scheduled for October 12 to 18, will bring together delegations from more than 190 countries to discuss global economic growth, financial stability and strategies for addressing economic challenges.
Nigeria’s delegation includes chief executives of financial institutions, private-sector representatives, civil society organisations and other stakeholders.
Discussions will focus on the global economic outlook, financial stability, poverty reduction and inclusive economic growth.
Participants will also examine how to strengthen the global financial system, support developing economies and address the economic effects of climate change.
The IMF is expected to release its World Economic Outlook and Global Financial Stability Report, which will provide projections for the global economy and assess risks facing the international financial system.
The meetings will also consider reforms to the global financial architecture to better support developing countries and promote sustainable development.
The IMF and the World Bank, established in 1944, play different roles in the global economy.
While the IMF focuses on monetary stability, economic surveillance and financial assistance to countries facing balance-of-payments challenges, the World Bank provides funding and technical support for development projects and poverty reduction.
