After reportedly falling out with his principal, the Deputy Governor of Oyo State appears to have fallen out with the State House of Assembly.
On Wednesday, 24 lawmakers signed a petition accusing Rauf Olaniyan of gross misconduct, abuse of office, financial recklessness, abandonment of office and official duties, and insubordination.
The document was read during plenary by the Clerk of the assembly, Yetunde Awe.
Thereafter, the Speaker, Adebo Ogundoyin said it met the two-thirds requirement to initiate the process of impeaching the Deputy Governor.
He added that the Assembly would give Mr. Olaniyan seven days to respond to the allegations.
“The window of response takes immediate effect and lapses on Wednesday, June 22,” he said.
Mr. Olaniyan has reportedly been involved in a cold war with Governor Seyi Makinde for the past two years.
This led to his defection from the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) under which they were both elected three years ago to the opposition All Progressives Congress (APC) on 5 June.
Makinde, who is seeking re-election in the 2023 General Election has also chosen another person to run with him as his deputy.
