The Oyo State Police Command has dismissed reports of an alleged bandit attack in Ogbomoso and adjoining communities, describing the incident as a false alarm driven by misinformation and unverified claims.

In a statement by Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Olayinka Ayanlade, the Command said panic spread across parts of Ogbomoso, including Ajaawa Town, following rumours of an invasion near Are-Ago High School, prompting immediate deployment of patrol and surveillance teams.

The police said preliminary findings showed that the individuals linked to the incident included an NSCDC officer from the Kwara State Command and two civilians travelling in a vehicle, adding that there was no security breach and that normal activities have resumed in the affected areas.

The Command warned against the spread of fake news capable of causing panic, while urging residents to rely on verified security information from official sources.
