The Delta State Police Command has arrested a police officer over the alleged extra-judicial killing of a 28-year-old suspect in Effurun.

The command said the incident occurred on April 26 when operatives responded to intelligence that the suspect, identified as Mene Ogidi, was attempting to transport a firearm.

According to the police, the suspect was apprehended with a Beretta pistol and ammunition before officers moved in to take him into custody.

However, the officer leading the team, ASP Nuhu Usman, allegedly shot the suspect in violation of police rules and standard procedures.

Police said the officer has been arrested, queried, and transferred to Abuja, where he will face the Force Disciplinary Committee for further action.

Commissioner of Police, Yemi Oyeniyi assured the public that justice will be served and extended condolences to the family of the deceased.
