Nigeria’s Minister of Power, Adebayo Adelabu, has apologised to Nigerians over the ongoing electricity outages, describing the situation as temporary but difficult.

He says the disruptions have affected businesses, schools and industries, adding that the hardship is worsened by the intense dry season heat.

Adelabu, however, assured that improvements in power supply should begin within the next two weeks, citing ongoing repairs and renewed commitments from gas suppliers.

He says government is working to restore gas supply to power plants and has set up a committee to ensure compliance from gas producers.

The minister adds that efforts are ongoing to stabilise the grid and improve generation, transmission and distribution across the country.

He also reaffirmed the government’s target to increase electricity generation to 6,000 megawatts before the end of 2026.
