
President Bola Tinubu has extended the tenure of Bashir Adeniyi as Comptroller General of the Nigeria Customs Service.
This was announced by the Presidency on Thursday through a statement released by Special Adviser to the President (Information and Strategy), Bayo Onanuga.
According to the statement, the extension is for a period of one year and comes as recognition by the president for his "steadfast leadership and commitment to service."
The current tenure was due to come to an end on August 31, 2025.
It read: "The Presidency announces that the tenure of the Comptroller-General of the Nigeria Customs Service, Mr. Bashir Adewale Adeniyi, MFR, which is due to expire on August 31, 2025, has been extended by one year."
President Tinubu also noted that this move would be crucial in ensuring that the NCS achieves its objectives while consolidating on the current reforms it has in place.
Those reforms according to the president include: The modernisation of the Nigeria Customs Service, the implementation of the National Single Window Project and the execution of Nigeria’s obligations under the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA) protocol.
"The President is confident that this extension will further strengthen the Nigeria Customs Service in achieving its strategic mandate of trade facilitation, revenue generation, and border security," said the president.
