The National Association of Proprietors of Private Schools (NAPPS) has called for increased security presence around schools and vulnerable rural communities following the recent abduction of teachers and students in Oyo State.

The association made the call during a special prayer and intercession programme organised by private school proprietors across the five local government areas in the Ogbomoso area, urging authorities to urgently strengthen security around educational institutions.

NAPPS leaders said the attacks on schools in Ahoro-Esinle and neighbouring communities have heightened fear among parents, teachers and school owners, and called for modern surveillance systems, improved intelligence gathering and rapid response mechanisms to prevent future incidents.

The abductions occurred on Friday when gunmen invaded schools in the Ahoro-Esinle and Yawota communities of Oriire Local Government Area of Oyo State, kidnapping students and teachers from Community High School, L.A. Primary School, and Baptist Nursery and Primary School.

Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde confirmed on Sunday that one of the abducted teachers was killed in captivity, describing the situation as challenging, while noting that efforts are ongoing to rescue remaining victims.

The Oyo State Police Command said it is working with the state government to rescue the victims.
