The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has sworn in Prof. Adeniran Tella for a new term as Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC) and immediately redeployed him to Oyo State, where he previously managed elections.
INEC Chairman, Prof. Joash Amupitan (SAN), described the ceremony as a “solemn call to duty,” charging Prof. Tella to uphold integrity and professionalism. “The credibility of Nigeria’s electoral system is the backbone of our democracy,” he said, warning against electoral malpractice, including vote buying.
Prof. Tella pledged to uphold fairness and transparency, improve real-time results transmission, strengthen cybersecurity, and ensure continuous training for election officials. He also promised open engagement with political parties, observers, and the media, emphasizing voter education and system testing in remote areas.
A Professor of Strategic Management at Atiba University, Prof. Tella successfully oversaw the 2023 general elections and the Ekiti governorship poll during his first tenure and has international credentials, including training at Harvard Business School.
