Authorities have raised an alarm over fresh vandalism along the Nigeria Railway Corporation corridor in Zango, Bauchi State, where rail sleepers were reportedly removed across a stretch between kilometre 878 and 889.

The warning was issued in a public statement posted on X by the Managing Director of the Nigeria Railway Corporation, Dr. Kayode Opeifa.

The post said the damage left sections of the rail line exposed and unstable, raising concerns over potential safety risks to train operations and passengers.

Officials described the act as a serious threat to national infrastructure, warning that tampering with railway materials could lead to derailments, loss of lives and disruption of transport services.

The corporation urged security agencies to intensify surveillance along rail corridors and called on residents to report suspicious activities.

It also warned scrap dealers and vandals to desist from illegal removal or trade of railway materials, stressing that offenders would be prosecuted.

The corporation described railway assets as critical national infrastructure that must be protected to safeguard lives and the economy.
