Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu has called on Nigerians to remain united and committed to building a stronger country as Nigeria marks its 66th Independence Anniversary.

Sanwo-Olu, in an Independence Day message, said Nigeria had experienced difficult periods as well as moments of significant progress since gaining independence on Oct. 1, 1960.

He said Nigerians had demonstrated resilience and determination through the country’s challenges and achievements.

The governor said he remained confident in Nigeria and what the country could achieve when its citizens work together.

Sanwo-Olu described Nigeria’s diversity as one of its greatest strengths and urged Nigerians not to allow their differences to divide them.

He also called on citizens to honour the sacrifices of those who contributed to the country’s independence by playing their part in building a better Nigeria.

According to him, the country’s founding heroes believed in a united Nigeria, while current and future generations have a responsibility to sustain that vision.

Sanwo-Olu said Nigeria belongs to all its citizens and that the country’s future would be shaped by the choices Nigerians make and their willingness to work together.

He ended his message by wishing Nigerians a happy 66th Independence Anniversary.
