The Senate has confirmed Dr. Kingsley Ude, a Senior Advocate of Nigeria from Enugu State, as a Minister of the Federal Republic.

His confirmation followed a screening session on the Senate floor on Thursday.

Born in 1978, Ude previously served as Enugu State Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice.

During the session, senators grilled him on several national and diplomatic issues — including Nigeria’s response to U.S. President Donald Trump’s recent remarks about possible military action.

Responding, Ude said President Bola Tinubu was handling the matter through diplomatic channels, calling it “a matter of diplomacy rather than law.”

He also weighed in on calls to separate the offices of the Attorney General and the Minister of Justice, saying the real issue lies in the integrity and independence of whoever occupies the role.

After his responses, the Senate asked him to take a bow and confirmed his appointment.

Dr. Ude replaces Uche Nnaji, the former Minister of Innovation, Science and Technology, who resigned following a certificate scandal.
