The Supreme Court will on April 30 deliver judgment in appeals involving leadership disputes in the African Democratic Congress (ADC) and the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

A five-member panel led by Justice Mohammed Garba heard the cases on April 22 and reserved judgment.

The ADC appeal stems from a dispute between former Senate President David Mark and a rival faction led by Nafiu Bala Gombe. Mark is challenging a March 12 Court of Appeal ruling that ordered parties to maintain the status quo.

He argues the lower court exceeded its jurisdiction, insisting the matter is an internal party issue.

Respondents, including the ADC, Rauf Aregbesola, INEC, and Ralph Nwosu, urged the court to dismiss the appeal, saying the ruling was valid.

Ahead of judgment, ADC lawyers urged the court to act quickly, warning delays could disrupt preparations for the 2027 elections and affect party recognition by INEC.

“The uncertainty over leadership is already affecting party operations and election readiness,” the lawyers said.

Details of the PDP case were not fully disclosed but also relate to internal leadership disputes.

The rulings are expected to shape party control ahead of the next election cycle.
