The Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) has begun urgent rehabilitation of five vandalised towers along the Ikot Abasi–Eket 132-kilovolt double-circuit transmission line.
The affected towers, J4 and N9 to N12, have been completely dismantled, while their bases have been recast as work progresses to restore the damaged infrastructure.
During an inspection on Friday, Sept. 25, the Assistant General Manager of Transmission in the Port Harcourt Region, Dr. Ubani Raymond, said the exercise was aimed at ensuring that the rehabilitation work meets engineering specifications and that necessary adjustments are made promptly.
Raymond, who represented the Regional Manager, Engr. Nasir Bello, expressed satisfaction with the progress recorded and urged residents of Ikot Abasi to remain vigilant and help protect critical power infrastructure against vandalism.
The Head of Lines in the Port Harcourt Transmission Region, Engr. Azuh Lucky, said two contractors had been engaged to accelerate the rehabilitation work.
However, he noted that difficult terrain and persistent rainfall had slowed progress.
Lucky stressed the importance of close monitoring to ensure that the contractors comply with engineering standards and deliver quality work.
The Principal Manager of the Uyo Work Centre, Engr. Eguaikhide Clement, also expressed satisfaction with the progress and commended the contractors for their commitment to completing the project.
