The Psychology of the Oppressor

Steven Biko once said, "The most potent weapon of the oppressor is the mind of the oppressed." Martin Luther King Jr. (not in response) also said, "Freedom is never voluntarily given by the oppressor, it must be demanded by the oppressed."

To that end, there is no gainsaying for the act of oppression to play out, there must be an "oppressor" and the "oppressed."

But what are the characteristics of an oppressor?

Joyce Onyemuwa was on the hunt for answers to this pertinent question on the Lords of Logic segment of the Sunny Side.

"The number one character of the oppressor is fear of losing out," said a caller.

In addition, the reason oppression thrives is largely due to a lack of reaction from the oppressed.

So why is this?

A caller who said she will "never, ever fall for an oppressor" explained how her two-year-old daughter dealt with her oppressor.
