President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has removed the head of the Nigerian Midstream and Downstream Petroleum Regulatory Authority and nominated a replacement.

In a statement, the presidency said Saidu Mohammed was relieved of his position in the public interest.

The president has nominated Rabiu Abdullahi Umar as the new chief executive of the agency, subject to Senate confirmation.

The move, made under the Petroleum Industry Act, is aimed at strengthening regulatory oversight in the midstream and downstream petroleum sectors.

Umar brings over 25 years of experience across energy, manufacturing and infrastructure, with a background in leadership and project delivery.

Pending his confirmation, the most senior official at the agency will oversee operations in an acting capacity.

President Tinubu thanked the outgoing chief executive for his service and reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to energy sector reforms and economic growth.
