President Bola Tinubu has ordered the deployment of an army battalion to Kaiama Local Government Area of Kwara State following a deadly overnight attack on Worro village. The presidency confirmed the move on Tuesday.
According to a statement from the president’s office, the new military formation will spearhead an operation known as Operation Savannah Shield, aimed at tackling Boko Haram fighters and protecting vulnerable communities in the area.
President Tinubu condemned the attack, saying the gunmen targeted civilians who refused attempts to impose extremist beliefs on them. He noted that the victims practiced a peaceful form of Islam that rejects violence and extremism.
The president called for stronger collaboration between federal and state authorities to support affected residents and ensure those behind the attack face justice. He also extended condolences to the families of the victims and to the people and government of Kwara State.
