The recent public interaction between the wife of the President, Oluremi Tinubu and Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke during an official ceremony in Ile-Ife, has sparked conversations across Nigerian social media space.
The incident occurred as Adeleke, known for his penchant for Entertainment, began singing during his goodwill speech at the installation of Senator Oluremi Tinubu as the Yeye Asiwaju Gbogbo Ile Oodua.
Mrs. Tinubu approached the stage, gesturing and mouthing words that quickly spread across social media: "I'm giving you five minutes to conclude your speech, enough with the music, or I will switch off the microphone."
Many social media commentators interpreted the First Lady's intervention as an inappropriate public correction of a sitting governor

Between First Lady and Governor, who get authority pass?
— Alabi (@the_Lawrenz) December 8, 2025
There's no office of the first lady in Nigeria

It's not a politically elected office https://t.co/ejkdv7A7nc
First Lady is an aberration to our constitution. There's no comparison in anyway. A governor of a Federating state is the Chief executive officer of the state he governs and he enjoys Full constitutional immunity while a first Lady exists for the emotional and spousal balance…

Journalist Rufai Oseni also dropped his two cents.
Na wa oooo.

Nobody could ever do this to President Tinubu as governor of Lagos https://t.co/zW7pmMApx1
Veteran Journalist, Dele Momodu, also weighed in on the debate
WHY YOU CAN'T BLAME MRS OLUREMI TINUBU
— Dele Momodu Ovation (@DeleMomodu) December 8, 2025
A member of the OVATION MEDIA GROUP team called me from Ile-Ife last night, frantically. I could feel him almost panting.
"Sir, your Sister has done it again", he said matter-of-factly...
"Who's my Sister and what has she done again?,"… pic.twitter.com/2BcpD1awjN
Meanwhile, a segment of the online community, defended the First Lady's action as a simple, necessary emphasis on event timeliness and adherence to agenda.
This is a grade one embarrassment. The First Lady had to do the needful.

Adeleke own too much, if he's not dancing, he'll be singing.
— Rashwal Rashwal (@RashwalRashwal) December 8, 2025
Honestly, that was necessary. Governor Adeleke comes across as an unserious person to me. Must you sing and dance everytime? The man needs to be cautioned.
