U.S. President Donald Trump has said that taking control of Iran’s oil resources remains a possible option, as tensions in the Middle East continue to rise.

Speaking during a cabinet meeting on Thursday, Trump suggested that Washington could consider asserting control over Iran’s vast oil reserves, describing the idea as economically beneficial for the United States.

However, he did not provide details on how such a move would be executed.

“It’s an option,” Trump said, while pointing to what he described as a successful U.S. approach to oil interests in Venezuela.

His remarks come amid an intensifying conflict involving the United States, Israel, and Iran, which has raised global concerns over energy security and regional stability.

Iran, a major player in the Organization of the Petroleum Exporting Countries (OPEC), holds some of the world’s largest proven oil reserves, making any disruption to its oil sector a matter of international significance.

Recent reports indicate that the U.S. is weighing multiple strategies linked to Iran’s energy infrastructure, including potential military and economic measures tied to oil production and exports.

Trump’s comparison to Venezuela refers to past U.S. efforts to back opposition forces and redirect oil revenues away from the government of Nicolás Maduro.

However, analysts note that Iran presents a far more complex challenge due to its military strength and regional alliances.

The latest comments also come as Washington explores diplomatic options alongside military pressure.

The U.S. has recently paused some strikes on Iranian energy facilities amid ongoing negotiations, reflecting a dual-track strategy of de-escalation and leverage.

Despite the rhetoric, the White House has not announced any formal plan regarding Iran’s oil sector, leaving uncertainty over whether Trump’s remarks signal a concrete policy direction or are part of broader strategic messaging.
