The University of Lagos chapter of the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) announced an indefinite strike starting Wednesday, March 11, over partial salaries paid to staff in January and February 2026.
In a statement signed by Chairperson Idou Kehinde and Secretary Adesina Arikawe, the union described the salary cuts as “wicked, unfeeling and satanic” and said all members would withdraw services until full payments are made.
“The University discriminately paid amputated salaries in January and February 2026, with no EAA payment at Akoka and no EAA or CATA at Idi-Araba,” the communique said.
The strike follows delays in implementing the 2025 federal agreement that revised academic salaries by 40% and introduced new allowances under the Consolidated University Academic Staff Salary (CONUASS), including the Consolidated Academic Tools Allowance (CATA) and Earned Academic Allowances (EAA).
ASUU said the inconsistencies in applying these allowances prompted the industrial action, warning that the strike will continue until all members’ January and February salaries are paid in full.
