Governor Dauda Lawal has commended troops of Operation Fansan Yamma for a series of coordinated offensives against armed bandits across Zamfara State, saying the operations have disrupted criminal networks and strengthened security in affected communities.

The Joint Task Force (North West) launched the operations in the early hours of May 7 across Kaura Namoda and Birnin Magaji local government areas, targeting suspected bandit hideouts.

Military officials said the troops “neutralised three gang leaders” and recovered an AK-47 rifle, a machine gun, a locally fabricated handgun, seven magazines and 571 rounds of ammunition.

In a statement, Lawal described the offensive as “timely and decisive,” especially following a May 10 airstrike that targeted a suspected terrorist meeting point in Tumfa village, Shinkafi Local Government Area.

Intelligence reports indicated that armed groups had gathered to coordinate attacks on nearby communities. Air assets struck the location, destroying the structure and disrupting the meeting.

Lawal commended the military’s “professional conduct and courage,” adding that the state government will continue to provide logistics and support to security agencies.

Authorities say operations against armed groups will continue across the state as part of ongoing efforts to restore stability.
