As the Local Government elections approach, a concerned caller has criticised the political parties involved, describing them as a committee of friends rather than true political entities. He expressed disappointment in what he called a dysfunctional political landscape, lacking credibility and structure.
Speaking on Nigeria Info's Hard Facts, the caller questioned the integrity of political affiliations in Nigeria, highlighting how easily politicians switch parties without consequence. He gave an example of how politicians can "go to bed as PDP members and wake up as APC members," pointing to former President Atiku Abubakar’s move from the People's Democratic Party, PDP, to the African Democratic Congress, ADC, as a case in point.
He stressed that this issue is not peculiar to Rivers State alone but is a nationwide challenge. According to him, many political parties in the country lack ideological foundations and are not guided by principles, making it difficult for voters to trust the system.
Further commenting on the inconsistency, he noted that many of the politicians who are candidates in the upcoming elections had previously criticised Atiku Abubakar for party defection, yet are now guilty of the same act. He called this a clear display of double standards within Nigeria's political space.
