Return the Party Structure to Wike and PDP Will Rise Again, Says Caller

Is it the End of the Road for the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the Niger Delta?

The defection of Bayelsa State Governor Douye Diri to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) has triggered concerns about the future of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the Niger Delta region, once considered its stronghold, having previously governed all seven states in the region.

Recent defections within the party have been attributed to persistent internal wranglings at the national level, with factions aligning behind key figures such as the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, and the Governor of Oyo State, Seyi Makinde, which have further undermined the party’s cohesion.

In a conversation on Nigeria Info FM, a caller told Morning Crossfire host Ifiemi Andrew that Wike remains the PDP’s only hope. He argued that the party could only be revived if its structure were returned to Wike, noting that he has the strategic capacity to restore the PDP to its former strength. “If Nyesom Wike is given back the structure of the party, then you will see the party return to its original form,” he stated.

With Governor Diri’s move to the APC, the PDP’s grip in the Niger Delta has been further weakened, leaving it now with only one state under its control.
