Residents of Rivers have expressed mixed reactions to the recent appointments made by the state's Sole Administrator, Retired Vice Admiral Ibok Ete Ibas, ahead of the expected return of suspended Governor Siminalayi Fubara.

Administrator Ibas recently appointed members to eight state boards, a move that has stirred debate among stakeholders.

Speaking on Nigeria Info’s Morning Crossfire, one caller welcomed the appointments and commended Ibas's leadership since being appointed sole administrator. He urged Governor Fubara to work with the new appointees for the state's progress, saying many of them contributed to Fubara’s rise to power. According to the caller, the appointees are competent and have the state's best interests at heart.

However, another caller criticised the move, calling the appointments humiliating. He questioned why selections would be made on the governor’s behalf before his official return.

He further alleged that the move was a strategy to provoke Governor Fubara and possibly extend the state of emergency in the state. The caller warned that such actions could set a dangerous precedent.
