Lagos State African Democratic Congress governorship candidate Gbadebo Rhodes-Vivour has promised to deliver 100,000 housing units within his first four years if elected governor of Lagos State in 2027.
Rhodes-Vivour also pledged to develop a multimodal and affordable transportation system across the state, with the aim of improving connectivity for residents.
He made the promises Thursday at a town hall meeting organised by The Platform, a thought leadership initiative of The Covenant Nation in Lagos.
The former Labour Party governorship candidate said his administration would increase opportunities for young people by providing skills training and creating jobs at the ward and local government levels.
“Our plans for you are increasing your capacity, localising that at the ward level so that you can get jobs and skills,” he said.
He said the programme would go beyond training by creating opportunities for residents to use the skills they acquire.
On insecurity and harassment, Rhodes-Vivour promised to provide help desks across the state where residents could report alleged police intimidation.
“We are going to take the thugs off the streets by giving them a different pathway to be productive members of society,” he said.
He said residents could receive free training in skills including tiling, bricklaying and POP installation at the ward level.
Rhodes-Vivour said trained artisans would later be engaged in the government’s proposed housing programme and paid above the minimum wage.
“We aim to deliver 100,000 housing units in four years,” he said.
He also promised to “create a truly multimodal and affordable means of transportation all over Lagos State.”
The candidate said the government would work with private-sector partners to improve transport infrastructure and make the state “better connected.”
