A 40-foot container-laden truck has crashed into other vehicles at the exit of Kara Bridge on the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway after reportedly suffering brake failure.
The incident occurred on Tuesday morning, causing a traffic backlog that extended toward the New Garage area.
The Lagos State Traffic Management Authority disclosed the crash in a post on its official X account, saying the truck rammed into road demarcation blocks and other vehicles.
LASTMA said, “A 40ft container laden truck reportedly had a brake failure and rammed into the demarcation blocks and other vehicles at the exit of Kara Bridge.”
The agency said recovery and evacuation operations had commenced, while appealing to motorists to remain patient as efforts continued to clear the affected vehicles.
“Recovery and evacuation efforts have commenced as backlog extends to New Garage,” LASTMA said.
Another crash was also reported on the Kara Bridge, inward Mowe, where a loaded trailer reportedly collided with a Sports Utility Vehicle.
LASTMA said its personnel, alongside police officers, had been deployed to the area to manage the situation and facilitate the removal of the affected vehicles.
“Officers and police personnel are on the ground doing the needful,” the agency said.
The agency urged motorists to exercise patience while emergency and traffic management teams worked to restore normal movement along the busy expressway.
The latest incident comes amid ongoing traffic challenges around the Kara-Berger section of the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway, where bridge repair works have also affected movement.
LASTMA said, “We implore motorists to be patient as all hands are on deck to ensure all impediments are cleared off the road.”
