Kano State Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf has issued a strong warning to his political mentor and former ally, Senator Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, saying he should not be pushed beyond his limits amid growing tensions within the state’s ruling political bloc.

Yusuf, speaking at a public event in Kano, said his silence over recent criticisms should not be mistaken for weakness, stressing that he has exercised restraint out of respect and commitment to peace.

“For us, peace in Kano remains our priority.

"But if we are pushed to the wall, we will open our mouths and talk.

"Silence is not a sign of fear,” the governor said.

He added that his decision to remain quiet was deliberate and rooted in respect for elders, but warned that continued attacks could force him to respond more openly.

“To keep quiet is an act of worship, not because we are afraid or because we are children,” Yusuf said, adding that restraint should not be mistaken for intimidation.

The governor also questioned recent criticisms directed at him from political stakeholders aligned with Kwankwaso, saying such comments were worsening internal divisions and distracting from governance in Kano State.

Yusuf further warned that sustained provocation could lead to him revealing information he has so far chosen to withhold, urging political actors to exercise restraint and allow peace to prevail.

“If an elder refuses to respect himself, the younger one will respond,” he said, adding that he had so far remained silent out of respect but might be forced to react.
