The Department of State Services has arrested a medical doctor accused of ferrying drugs from Sokoto to kidnappers operating in parts of Kwara State.

The Kwara State Government, in a post on X on Friday, said the suspect was intercepted in the Jebba area following intelligence reports on the activities of kidnapping gangs and their couriers.

According to the government, security sources revealed that the criminal groups have recently become increasingly desperate for medical attention after several members sustained gunshot wounds in clashes with security forces.

A security official quoted in the statement warned that the gangs may target health facilities in remote and forested areas where they seek treatment.

“So, we are advising improved security measures in health facilities in thickly forested areas which the kidnappers may target,” the official said.

The state government did not release the identity of the doctor, but noted that investigations are ongoing.
